Christmas Lights in Chester

The lights have been turned on;
Roads were closed, congested
Crowds turned up to witness
Chester in it's lighted splendour.

The night is soberly cold-
Not many about
Asides from hardened door sleepers,
Their duvets and blankets
In empty shop doorways.

Spice may offer relief,
So they can fall asleep
To forget lights have been switched on
And it is nearly Christmas.
