Irma la Douce

In my younger days the name Irma la Douce
was synonymous with sweetness and light.
She was a frolicsome but likeable tart
but though full of mischief and naughtiness
she was never as wicked or as troublesome
as the eponymous counterpart of today.
This Irma is neither sweet nor amenable,
but a vicious hurricane which destroys
anything and anyone who stands in her way.
Torrential rain and wind leave a lethal trail
and more extreme weather will follow.
While some climate change deniers will say
that they sympathise and share our sorrow
they are not the ones who are left to wail.
