Complete Sense Here In The Playground

Here in the playground
of the special school for world diplomacy,
everybody is watching the two bullies
circling each other.
‘Mentally deranged US dotard!’
yells Kim Jong-Un at Donald Trump.
yells Donald right back.

Miracle of miracles:
suddenly, and even though
it is so brief it is all over by the time
they start their next sentences,
both of them are making
complete sense.

  1. Clever! I like the playground setting of this. It does feel exactly like that.

    1. Thanks for the kind comment, Fran. Funnily enough, the poem started simply with noticing that, almost by chance, the two leaders had talked sense for a change, but also just how fleeting that apparent sense was. The idea of them as rival playground bullies came only after I’d written a first draft without that idea in it.
