And all your money...

cannot stop the earth from quaking, the sea from slopping or wind’s fist from opening, flinging dust to the north and west,
cannot make safe the poisoned land or the farmer who stays, staring at stray dogs, cannot buy hope for those existing in cardboard rooms, left to chew iodine and scarf their children’s swollen necks...

hiding the reminder of what’s to come, 
their future now worthless, 
the world has moved on.
